Beautiful Birdhouse Gourds

I get a daily mailing from this photographer fella. He goes around taking pictures of barns, town squares, etc. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did

Hi There:

Today's POD MW features some birdhouses that have been fashioned from gourds.

Early in September, we took a drive to Nashville IN to meet relatives for lunch and to shop some of the craft shops there. We took the camera and found a few photos that were awaiting to be captured. The fall of the year is a great time to experience this place.

If you have not been to Nashville IN, first off we would advise one to go. We think of this south central Indiana town as a "happening". It is somewhat of an artist's colony, and a year round craft fair/festival combination. Throw in a couple of old hotels that have good restaurants, a horse drawn carriage or two, a winery, and a good place to get an ice cream have the idea. It can be shop til you drop, it is a fun day.

In one of the outdoor shops we spotted these painted birdhouse gourds. We feed Ruby Throated Hummingbirds, Cardinals, and American Goldfinches in our back yard, so we were drawn to these gourds. (See Pics 005, 006, and 009). We do not know much about gourds as birdhouse, but they were quite pretty in the varying sun and shadow.
