America's education

I just got back from the grocery store.

I am making hobos for dinner tonight.

I am making hobos for two.

I am trying to limit myself to 2 ounces of meat.

I need 4 ounces (1/4 lb.) of hamburger meat.

I go to the meat counter and ask for a quarter pound of
ground chuck.

I get a blank stare.

I tell him I need 1/4 a pound of ground beef.

I get another blank stare and then he asks "how much"?

I say I need a quarter pound of ground beef.

I get another blank stare.

I finally say, give me that hunk right there. That will be fine.

It was .45 of a pound, which was .2 of a pound more than I really wanted.

I guess he really couldn't figure out that a quarter of a pound would be .25 on his little machine.
